Please also see the 'Aims' of the journal. The Australian Medical Student Journal (AMSJ) is an academic publication that accepts submissions from all Australian medical students, as well as students studying medically-related disciplines. It is the first undertaking of its kind in Australia. It is staffed entirely by medical students and is currently at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Sydney. With the increasing presence of principles of evidence-based medicine and compulsory research projects in Australian medical curricula, there has never been a more sensible time for a national student journal to be launched. The AMSJ strives for the academic rigour and quality of a major academic journal, although seeks to publish content that will be of particular appeal to a medical student readership. The journal will publish on a biannual basis. The AMSJ would like to see all medical schools well-represented among its submissions. Australia now has 21 medical schools across 7 states and territories, and students from all of these are eligible to submit to the AMSJ. Submissions from other health-related disciplines are not limited to these universities. In the past as well as presently, some individual universities have put together regular and one-off journal publications, and the idea of a national journal has previously been considered although never pursued. The AMSJ was concieved at UNSW, and since early 2009, fellow students Matt Schiller, Timothy Yang and Hassan Ahmad have been responsible for making the idea a reality, with consultation with the Dean and other senior staff of UNSW's Faculty of Medicine beginning in mid-2009. These three students now form the journal's Executive Board. Both the online and print versions of the AMSJ are registered with the Australian International Standard Serial Numbers (ISSN) Agency and the National Library of Australia (NLA):
